Chibougamau, Québec, October 25th, 2018
Eeyou Communications Network (ECN) announces an investment of more than $ 300,000 with the purchase of a building in Chibougamau to support its fiber-to-the-home operations for the communities of Chibougamau, Chapais, Matagami and Lebel-sur -Quévillon.
“In order to support the growth of the network operations associated with the delivery of fiber-to-the-home services in the Jamesian communities of Chapais, Chibougamau, Lebel-sur-Quévillon and Matagami in 2019, it became evident that we would need more space for our staff and equipment, the purchase of the “Lettrage Waldi” building was an ideal option for our needs.” said ECN Director General Cédric Melançon. “This is a first step, and several other processes are underway simultaneously, such as license applications for the use of structures as well as the supply of equipment required for network deployment.”
ECN in partnership with Distributel already provides residential telecommunications services to the communities of Waswanipi, Ouje-Bougoumou, Mistissini, Nemaska, Eastmain and Waskaganish. The communities of Wemindji and Radisson will be connected by the end of 2018 and the communities of Chapais, Chibougamau, Lebel-sur-Quevillon and Matagami in 2019.
ECN’s FTTH project aims to reach more than 10,000 homes in the James-Bay and Eeyou-Istchee territories with Triple-Play services. Every subscriber will be able to receive full-service (150+ channels) TV, Internet at not less than 50 Mbps (up to 1 Gbps), home telephones and a full complement of streaming channels including Netflix, Google Play, HBO Now, Apple TV, Tou.tv and real-time gaming.
